Abstract

The buried valleys aquifers are found in the Prairies (Alberta and Saskatchewan). Over 20 000 km of buried valleys have been identified beneath the Prairie landscape. They refer to valleys that are incised into bedrock and buried by till. Since they have different geologies and a distinct stratigraphic setting; each aquifer has its own hydraulic characteristics. However, they are treated equally. The dataset mainly describes the aquifer media, recharge and groundwater flow. There are also data concerning confinement, surficial sediment thickness, hydraulic conductivity, yields and groundwater quality. The dataset is a summary of data and hydrogeological information for all aquifers, aquifer systems and hydrogeological contexts of the buried valleys aquifers.
