Identification
Abstract
This preliminary geodatabase depicts the bedrock geology, including bedrock unit polygons, contacts, faults and fold traces underlying Calder River map area (NTS 86F), to the southeast of Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories. The area includes Archean rocks of the Slave craton and Paleoproterozoic rocks of the Wopmay orogen. Both groups of rocks were deformed at 1.883 Ga during the Calderian orogeny.
The geodatabase was produced under the GEM's-Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold (IOCG) Great Bear project, led by Louise Corriveau, for the GEM's-Mineral Program. It is based on mapping done by Robert Hildebrand in 1979, 1980, 1983, 1984. 1986, 1987, 1989 and 1990, and is supported by remotely sensed information derived from aerial photos, satellite imagery and geophysics and by petrography, geochemistry, and geochronology performed during and after mapping.

Goals
The purpose of this dataset is to depict bedrock geology to the general user who wants to combine it with other georeferenced data to create a custom map. The datasets included in this geodatabase can be used to guide mineral exploration activity or environmental studies. They can be integrated mathematically and/or visually with other types of data to gather deeper insight into the geological makeup of the region or to incorporate in mineral or environmental potential modelling. They can also be used as training observation datasets for remote predictive mapping.

Lineage is the description of the sources and steps used to create the current dataset.
Introduction
The datasets of this map were compiled from interpretations made of aerial photographs, with the aid of satellite images, geophysics and petrology, geochemistry and geochronology done during and after the mapping. Contacts and faults were drawn manually on 1:50000 topographic map and were then digitized in ArcGIS. Data was then validated by author and reviewers.
