Abstract

This dataset presents the bedrock geology of the south-western Mauricie. The study area covers the 17 municipalities of the Maskinongé MRC, Trois-Rivieres and Shawinigan cities and the Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel municipality. The bedrock in the south-west of Mauricie is composed of rocks from two distinct geologic provinces. The St. Lawrence Lowlands geologic province skirts the St. Lawrence River and is composed of sedimentary rocks deposited in a marine environment. The Grenville geologic province is located in the northern part of the study area and mainly includes igneous and metamorphic rocks.

Introduction
General process description
Process step Sources
The dataset comes from the Geologie_du_socled file of the MAUR_UQTR.gdb geodatabase. The geological units descriptions were found in the attribute table of the file and in table 4.1 of the final report for the project ''caractérisation hydrogéologique du sud-ouest de la Mauricie'' that was submitted to the Ministère du Développement durable, de l'Environnement et des Parcs. Bedrock geological units were assigned a lithologic class based on the dominant composition to the extent it was possible, with the understanding that some units are too complex to be assigned a single lithologic class, in order to render the map in a uniform national map. The original classification of the unit is still available in the dataset, along with a link to the Lexicon of Canadian Geologic Units (http://weblex.nrcan.gc.ca/). The GeoSciML / IUGS lithological classification has been used as a standard earth material vocabulary (http://resource.geosciml.org/).
