Abstract

The Chaudière sector is located in southwestern Quebec, just south of Quebec City. It is bounded north by the St. Lawrence River and south by the international border. The sector is divided in two aquifer types: fractured bedrock aquifer and granular aquifers found in alluvial and glaciofluvial deposits. The dataset mainly describes the geology and groundwater flow. However, there are data concerning confinement, hydrogeological unit thickness, wells depth, groundwater depth, recharge and discharge, aquifer vulnerability and groundwater quality are available. The dataset is a summary of data and hydrogeological information for all aquifers, aquifer systems and hydrogeological contexts of the Chaudière project.

Lineage

Message Date lineage
Lineage is the description of the sources and steps used to create the current dataset.

Introduction
General process description
Process step Sources
The dataset comes form the granulaire raster of the GIS3.zip file. A single value was attributed to all pixels representing a granular aquifer. The dataset was then converted to a polygon using Simplify polygon in ArcGIS. The ArcGIS Smooth polygon tool was then used to smooth the polygons (tolerance = 125m) to ameliorate the polygons graphical representations.
