Abstract

The Fraser Lowlands are located in south-west British Columbia, just east of Vancouver. The regional aquifer system follows the Fraser River from Vancouver to Hope. The aquifer system extents south to the international border. It consists of two types of aquifer: granular and fractured rock. Granular aquifers are abundant, including more than 200 aquifers. Along those aquifers, the two major granular aquifers are Abbotsford-Sumas and Brookswood. Those aquifers are composed of glaciofluvial sand and gravel and exhibits high aquifer potential. They are the most used unconfined aquifers in the Fraser Lowlands. This dataset describes in details the hydrogeological context of the aquifers and the associated aquifer system and more specifically, the aquifers yields and usage. The dataset also provides information on aquifer vulnerability, groundwater quality, surficial deposits thickness and confinement. The dataset is a summary of data and hydrogeological information for all aquifers, aquifer systems and hydrogeological contexts of the Fraser Lowlands project.

Lineage

Message Date lineage
Lineage is the description of the sources and steps used to create the current dataset.

Introduction
General process description
Process step Sources
The dataset comes from the two fraser.shp files of folders (limites and ressource) of the Fraser Lowlands project archives folder. One file describes the aquifer system geometry and the other the aquifers geometry. Both files were merged to create the dataset. The aquifers nomenclature comes from figure 9 (Datfig09.pdf) of the document Aquifer Delineation, Fraser Lowland and Delta: Mapping, Geophysics, and Groundwater Modelling (B.D. Ricketts and A.J. Makepeace, Editors).
