Abstract

The St-Mathieu-Berry Esker is located in Abitibi, northwestern Quebec. It is divided in two aquifers: confined and unconfined. The confined aquifer consists of the part of the esker which is covered by clay. It is mainly found in the esker system's borders. The unconfined aquifer is the esker's ridge which is also the recharge area. The dataset describes mainly groundwater flow and interactions between the two aquifers. However, it also provides information on confinement, hydraulic conductivity, recharge, groundwater usage, aquifer vulnerability and groundwater quality. The dataset is a summary of data and hydrogeological information for all aquifers, aquifer systems and hydrogeological contexts of the Abitibi esker project.

The dataset comes from the the Marie-Noëlle Riverin's thesis (Planche12_Contextes_aquifère.pdf) 'Caractérisation et modélisation de la dynamique d'écoulement dans le système aquifère de l'esker Saint-Mathieu/Berry, Abitibi, Québec (2006)'. The PDF file was converted to a (.png) file format and was imported and georenferenced using ArcGIS. The vector dataset was created by scanning the polygons from the georenferenced image.
