Abstract

The Cornwallis-Annapolis valley is located in the northeast of Nova Scotia. It extends from Annapolis Royal to the Minas Basin in the north. The area is divided into three hydrogeological units: good or variable bedrock aquifer, good surficial aquifer and poor aquifer. The latter is considered as an aquitard. The two other units have good aquifer potential. The dataset mostly describes the geological and stratigraphic settings and the groundwater flow in the regional system and in each hydrogeological unit. The dataset also gives information on confinement, surficial sediment and hydrogeological units thickness, wells depth, groundwater depth, hydraulic conductivity, recharge and discharge, hydrogeological units yield, aquifer vulnerability, threats and groundwater quality. The dataset is a summary of data and hydrogeological information for all aquifers, aquifer systems and hydrogeological contexts of the Cornwallis-Annapolis valley.

Introduction
General process description
Process step Sources
This dataset was created by using the map 5.1 (Distribution of potential aquifer) of the Hydrogeological Atlas of the Annapolis Valley of the Geological Survey of Canada. Polygons from the file limites_acvas.shp and some polygons from the file surfGeol.shp were combined to create the dataset geometry. Sorting the polygons of the surfGeol.shp file was made by using the 5.1 map by superimposing the images and polygons. Only polygons overlapping the corresponding good surficial aquifers (Ice Contact proglacial sediments and Subaerial fan sediments) areas were preserved to create the first hydrogeological unit. The other two units correspond to polygons from the file limites_acvas.shp.
