Abstract

This dataset shows bedrock geologic units of the Mirabel area. The study area located northwest of Montreal, includes four regional county municipalities: Argenteuil, Deux-Montagnes, Mirabel and Therese-De-Blainville. The aquifer system is hosted by the Paleozoic rocks of the geological province known as the St. Lawrence Platform. In ascending order, the stratigraphic sequence of Paleozoic rocks in southwestern Quebec is made up of the Potsdam Group, Beekmantown Group and the Chazy, Black River and Trenton groups.

Introduction
General process description
Process step Sources
Bedrock geological units were assigned a lithologic class based on the dominant composition, with the understanding that some units are too complex to be assigned a single lithologic class, in order to render the map in a uniform national map. The original classification of the unit is still available in the dataset along with a link to the Lexicon of Canadian Geologic Units (http://weblex.nrcan.gc.ca/). The GeoSciML / IUGS lithological classification has been used as a standard earth material vocabulary (http://resource.geosciml.org/).
