Abstract

This dataset shows the distribution of the groundwater usage in the Chaudière River Watershed. The study area designates the Chaudière River watershed, located south of the St. Lawrence River, near Québec City. The total annual groundwater use is estimated to be 17.4 Mm3/y. Approximately 6.9 Mm3/y (40%) is withdrawn from major municipal and industrial wells, whereas the remaining 10.5 Mm3/y (60%) is extracted from private wells for domestic use and agricultural use, including irrigation and livestock watering.

The dataset comes from the 4.5 map (Utilisation de l'eau souterraine estimée par catégorie d'utilisateurs et par sous-bassins) of the Atlas des eaux souterraines du bassin versant de la rivière Chaudière. Domestic usage was established by adding private wells usage and municipalities usage. The dataset geometry was built by georeferencing the map and creating polygons with ArcGIS.
