Abstract

This dataset presents the bedrock geology of the Winnipeg Formation. The study area extends from 101° to 96°. The Winnipeg Formation consists predominantly of fine to coarse-grained siliceous sandstone. The formation is the basal Paleozoic sediments throughout Manitoba, except where they are underlain by the Cambrian Deadwood formation in the extreme southwest of the province. The carbonates of the Upper Ordovician Red River Formation overlie the Winnipeg Formation.

Introduction

The dataset comes from the GW_TEST.BDR_Fm_MB file of the CAL_TEST-GW Test-RO.sde database. The dataset was cut in ArcGIS using the limite.bcu file to keep only the data related to the studied area. Bedrock geological units were assigned a lithologic class based on the dominant composition, in order to render the map in a uniform national map. The original classification of the unit is still available in the dataset, along with a link to the Lexicon of Canadian Geologic Units (http://weblex.nrcan.gc.ca/). The GeoSciML / IUGS lithological classification has been used as a standard earth material vocabulary (http://resource.geosciml.org/).
