Identification

Abstract

The Basal Clastic unit is located in Manitoba. It is bounded east by the Winnipeg Lake and west by the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border. The Basal Clastic unit is divided in two hydrogeological units: freshwater aquifer and brine or salted water aquifer. The latter aquifer extends into the western Interlake region and as far east as the outcrop area south of the Winnipeg Lake. The freshwater aquifer is confined to the northern part of the basin, the eastern Interlake region and parts of southeastern Manitoba. The freshwater-saline-water interface appears to be moving and generates a retreat of the salt water front in some places and a progress of this front in other places. The dataset describes in details the groundwater flow of each aquifers and the interaction between the aquifers. It also exhibits the confinement, groundwater storage, surficial deposits thickness, wells depth, groundwater depth, hydraulic conductivity, hydrogeological units yield, groundwater usage, threats and groundwater quality. The dataset is a summary of data and hydrogeological information for all aquifers, aquifer systems and hydrogeological contexts of the Basal Clastic unit (Winnipeg) project.
