Identification

Abstract

This dataset shows the piezometry of the Nanaimo Lowland aquifer, British Columbia. The study area is from Nanoose Bay to Deep Bay, designating a low relief coastal strip along the southeastern part of Vancouver Island, BC. The piezometry was realised for the bedrock aquifer and for the Quadra aquifer. This dataset represents the piezometry of the bedrock aquifer. The bedrock aquifer shows piezometric lines of 200 - 125 m along the mountains. The groundwater elevation gently decreases from the mountains towards the Strait of Georgia. The Quadra piezometry shows piezometric lines of 140-120 m in the mountains. The piezometric level decreases from the mountains to the rivers and to the Strait of Georgia.

Groundwater Piezometry raster creation - Nanaimo
Process step Sources
The bedrock and Quadra piezometry maps (.mxd) were exported under png format and georeferenced. The images were georeferenced using the « Georeferencing » toolbar in ArcGis, referencing the georeferencing on the study area shapefile. To bring the images roughly in the right location, a ""fit to display"" was applied. The images were then projected using the tool ""Project"".
