Identification

Abstract

The Gulf Islands are located in the Strait of Georgia, between Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia. The data describes two aquifers groups that are found in these islands: granular aquifers and a fractured rock aquifer. Locally some perched aquifers can be found. Perched and granular aquifers are little known, thus the data mostly concerned bedrock aquifer, which is the aquifer more utilized. The data mainly exhibits the regional fractured aquifer system dynamic, explaining the groundwater flow from the recharge in the topographic highs to the discharge. The main concern about the aquifer, saltwater intrusion, is discussed. There are also information on confinement, groundwater storage, aquifer vulnerability, thickness of surficial deposits and bedrock units, aquifer potential, groundwater usage, and groundwater quality. The dataset summaries data and hydrogeological information for all aquifers, aquifer systems and hydrogeological contexts of the Gulf Islands project.

The data from the BC Aquifer map was superimposed to the data of the Geological Survey of Canada Gulf Islands Aquifer map.
