Identification

Abstract

The Carboniferous Basin is located in the south-east of New Brunswick. It extends from Harcourt in the north to Caledonian Mountains in the south. The southern part of Prince Edward Island is also included in the area. The Carboniferous Basin is divided into six hydrogeological units. This division is based on regional bedrock geology. The internal stratigraphy of these units is complex and often laterally discontinuous, affecting the hydrogeological characteristics. The dataset mostly focuses on geological and stratigraphic setting, and specificities of each hydrogeological unit. Moreover, there are data on confinement, surficial sediment thickness, wells depth, groundwater depth, surficial unit and bedrock hydraulic conductivities, recharge and discharge, hydrogeological units potential, aquifer vulnerability and groundwater quality. The dataset is a summary of data and hydrogeological information for all aquifers, aquifer systems and hydrogeological contexts of Carboniferous Basin project.
