Abstract

This map shows the distribution of the surficial geology in the Milk River Transboundary Aquifer region. The aquifer is bounded by the edge of the Disturbed Belt on the west, by the Cypress Hills on the northeast and the Bears Paw Mountains on the southeast. The most common sediments are the glacial drift: blanket till and hummocky till which mostly cover the plain. Large glaciolacustrine deposits are found in the northwestern part of the plains. The topographic highs weren't glaciated, thus they are not covered with unconsolidated sediments.

Introduction
Creation of the surficial geology for Milk River
Process step Sources
The Montana surficial geology paper map was converted into digital map. To do so, the map has been trace. The tracing was scanned and the noise has been removed. The paper map and the tracing were georeferenced using ArcGis. A vectorization was then applied on the tracing and the polygones were generated into a polylines which were converted into a polygone shapefile. The surficial geology was edited in the attribute table. The surficial geology classes of the three shapefiles were standardized using the Surficial Geology of Canada Legend of the Geological Survey of Canada (2014).
