Abstract

This dataset exhibits the surficial geology of the Oak Ridges Moraine area, southern Ontario. The study area includes most of the Greater Toronto Area. The surficial geology of the Oak Ridges Moraine is simplified to four principal units. They are, stratigraphically upward: 1) Lower sediment; 2) Newmarket Till; 3) Oak Ridges Moraine and channel sediment; and 4) Halton Till. Lower sediment comprises 10 formations that are stratigraphically beneath Newmarket Till.

Introduction
General process description
Process step Sources
The dataset (Digital surficial geology data of the Greater Toronto and Oak Ridges Moraine area, southern Ontario) was downloaded from GEOSCAN: (http://geoscan.ess.nrcan.gc.ca/cgi-bin/starfinder/0?path=geoscan.downloadf.fl&id=fastlink&pass=&format=FLDOWNLOADF&search=R=222772). Surfical geology unit were reclassified according to Geological Survey of Canada standard surficial geology legend (http://dx.doi.org/10.4095/290144) when it was possible - with the understanding that some units might not perfectly match in the new classification. The original classification is kept in the dataset.
