Identification

Abstract

This dataset presents the surficial geology of the south-central area of the Maritimes Carboniferous Basin. The study area extends from 65°30' à 63°30'.The surficial deposits of the Maritimes Carboniferous Basin are mainly composed of till and glacio-fluvial deposits. Only a few small areas are covered by marine clay. Sand and gravel are restricted to narrow zones near major streams and to glaciofluvial complexes.

Sources

The dataset comes from the file quaternaire.shp of the MGWI project archives folder. Descriptions were found in the Hydrogeological Atlas of the South-Central Area of the Maritimes Carboniferous Basin (map 3-1). Surfical geology unit were reclassified according to Geological Survey of Canada standard surficial geology legend (http://dx.doi.org/10.4095/290144) when it was possible - with the understanding that some units might not perfectly match in the new classification. The original classification is kept in the dataset.
