Identification

Abstract

The dataset presents the surficial geology of Châteauguay River watershed. The Quaternary sediments cover almost all the basin surface, except some bedrock outcrops located on Le Roche, on the Covey Hill north flank and on high elevations in the United States. Among the Quaternary sediments, there are the glacial sediments (till), coastal postglacial (sand and gravel), glaciofluvial (esker), eolian (sand hill), lacustrine (silt), marine (Champlain Sea clay), postglacial alluvium (sand and gravel) and organic deposits.

The dataset was collected form the geo_poly.shp file. Surfical geology unit were reclassified according to the Geological Survey of Canada standard surficial geology legend (http://dx.doi.org/10.4095/290144) when it was possible - with the understanding that some units might not perfectly match in the new classification. The original classification is kept in the dataset.
